Hi! And welcome to my website! My name’s Paul Lasaine, and I’m an artist working in the entertainment industry. More specifically, I’m a production designer. And even MORE specifically, I’m a production designer for animation. For those of you unfamiliar with that term, a production designer (sometimes called an art director, depending on the studio) is the person in charge of the art and design of a film or TV production. Production designers are responsible for establishing the style and look of a project, heading up the team of artists who design…well, everything…and figuring out how to get all the work done on time, and within the budget. They’re also responsible for making sure quality is maintained as work moves through the various production departments. It’s equal parts creative and managerial. Definitely not a job for everyone, but I love it! I also work as a designer myself, and have had the good fortune to work on dozens of amazing projects at studios like DreamWorks, Disney, Sony, and Weta…to name just a few. Here you’ll find a selection of my artwork from those projects…with a few personal pieces thrown in for good measure. Because even though I make my living in the entertainment industry, at heart, I’m just an artist, constantly searching for beauty and meaning in the world around me. I hope you enjoy my work. One caveat: art for film can be a very collaborative process, and it’s not uncommon to work on pieces with other artists. A number of the pieces here are based on layouts drawn by some of my colleagues, and I’ve done my best to give credit where credit is due. Also, I’m still working out the kinks on this site. If you find any broken links, typos, or any other mistakes, please let me know. There’s a contact form where you can reach me in the “About” page. Thanks. And thanks for visiting! -Paul
