/ Ultraman Rising

I was the original production designer on an early version of this film when it was being produced at Sony - before it was picked up by Netflix, and the name was changed from "Made in Los Angeles" to "Ultraman Rising". At that time, the main character wasn’t Ultraman; he was an Ultraman-inspired character named Gamma Man. And as the old title would imply, that version of the film was set in Los Angeles. Believe it or not, there was an even earlier version called "Made in Japan", which was set in…you guessed it…Japan. But Sony decided they wanted the film to be set in LA. So writer/director Shannon Tindle had to retool everything to change the location, and the title. For reasons I was never privy to, Sony ended up halting production on the show completely, which meant I had to find work elsewhere…which was a bummer, because by the time "Ultraman Rising" got going at Netflix, I was no longer available (I was already knee deep on What If at Marvel.) Anyway, here are a few pieces from that LA-based version. Special thank’s to Marcos Mateu who did the layouts for several of these.
